MWRA is the issuing body for a number of permits that help to keep our water clean. These fall into two broad categories: TRAC Industrial Discharge Permits and Construction Related Permits. You will find information and application instructions for all MWRA issued permit below.

TRAC Industrial Discharge Permits
Industrial Discharge Permits are permits that allow for people or facilities to discharge chemicals or other waste directly into our sewer system. There are many types of Industrial Discharge Permits, all of which are further explained below.
Construction Related Permits
There are two types of construction related permits. The first, 8M, is required for any person or entity that is doing construction work within a certain distance of an MWRA pipe or facility. The second, Direct Master (or Direct Connect) allows for a person or entity that is doing construction work to tie directly into an MWRA pipeline. MWRA Contacts
Each municipality is assigned an Industrial Coordinator and a Compliance Coordinator within the MWRA. Industrial Coordinators are responsible for inspecting and permitting to industrial users in that municipality. Compliance Coordinators are responsible for issuing Notices of Violation and overseeing escalated enforcement actions.
