Soil Boring Activity in Waltham

The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) is planning to upgrade water transmission

pipes in Waltham. As part of the design effort, MWRA has hired CDM Smith, Inc. and other firms to

perform sub-surface exploration activities on/near existing pipelines. The soil boring activities involve blocking off a small area of the road with a support truck and a boring rig, drilling down to a depth of 15 to 25 feet and removing the soil samples. At each location, the work is estimated to take 4-5 hours. MWRA has 49 sites planned for Waltham. The boring locations are shown in the table and overview plan. Notification letters will be sent to abutters. Work will begin on or after October 6, 2017 and will occur between 7AM and 4PM. Construction Zone Safety Plans, including local police details, will be provided for traffic control, and ensuring worker and general public safety in each area.

If you have any concerns or questions, please contact: Jeffrey McLaughlin, MWRA: (617) 305-5762 or via email at Jeffrey.McLaughlin@mwra.com.
