Dear Nahant Residents,
In accordance with Federal Drinking Water Regulations the MWRA and Town of Nahant have prepared this 2022 Drinking Water Report. The Town receives all of its water from the MWRA.
All water supplied to Nahant is metered at the Nahant Rotary. This water is distributed through 26 miles of water distribution pipeline throughout Town ranging in size from 4 to 16 inches in diameter serving approximately 1400 service connections. Water meters are read three times per year using an Automatic Remote Reading System. The average daily consumption was 360,000 gallons.
Leak detection is performed annually throughout the distribution system, and as needed based on water consumption reports. Drinking water sampling is performed twice a month and sent to the MWRA lab for analysis. Lead and copper sampling is performed once per year. All samples were well within Federal and State guidelines. Water samples were taken from the Johnson Elementary School, as well as 10 residences to be tested for lead as required under the Lead and Copper Rule (LCR). The 90th percentile for lead was 2.03 parts per billion (ppb), well below the Action Level of 15 ppb. The 90th percentile for copper was 92.5 ppb, below the Action Level of 1300 ppb.

In 2022, with assistance of the MWRA Loan Program, the Town completed the preliminary design for water main upgrades and replaced or repaired numerous water gate valves and fire hydrants. Leak detection was conducted on the system town-wide and all leaks discovered were repaired.
