Public Water Supply
# 3248000

The Revere Department of Public Works provides this annual water quality report to keep you informed about your drinking water. The US EPA requires water suppliers to provide annual water quality reports containing important information on drinking water to every customer in its service area.

OUR DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

Revere purchases all the water in our distribution system directly from the MWRA. The water distribution system consists of a network of pipes, valves, hydrants, and service lines. The system is also used for fire protection. Revere’s distribution system is comprised of approximately 107 miles of water mains ranging from four to sixteen inches in diameter. There are approximately eight hundred and fifty-five hydrants that are owned and maintained by the City, and over one thousand gate valves that allow isolated portions of the system to be shut down for repairs and maintenance. Much of the system is aging and although this is not a health problem, it can affect the appearance of the water, such as yellow and red water problems.

LEAD AND COPPER TESTING

Revere is very concerned about lead and copper in the tap water and is required by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to carry out tests on water from fifteen home sites and two schools once a year. The 90th percentile lead level in Revere’s water was 5.42 ppb in September 2021, well below the Action Level of 15 ppb. The copper level was 134 ppb, also well below the Action Level of 1300 ppb.

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN

We have been replacing old water mains, hydrants and gate valves throughout the City. We plan to continue upgrading the water system in our City with new projects every year. The hydrant inspection and maintenance program has been instituted on a yearly program. The new water meter project provided an accurate number of lead service lines that are being replaced in the City. There are less than 70 of these lead services lines left. We will be removing the last of these this year. We are also replacing old water main on a number of streets this year. These will be Elerton Street, Argyle Street, York Street, Bay Road, Ambrose Street, Loring Road, Sears Street, Sweeney Avenue, Leonard Road, Pomona Street, Bellevue Avenue, and North Shore Road from Revere Street to Butler Circle. The City of Revere water department will keep working to improve the Revere Water Distribution System so that we all can enjoy clean safe water.

If you have any questions or comments about your water, or would like information on public meetings, please call us at: 781-286-8145. Thank you.
