The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) is planning to upgrade water transmission pipes in Watertown. As part of the design effort, MWRA has hired CDM Smith, Inc. and other firms to perform sub-surface exploration activities on or near existing water pipelines.
The soil boring activities involve blocking off a small area of the road with a support truck and a boring rig, drilling down to a depth of 15 to 25 feet and removing the soil samples. At each location, the work is estimated to take 4-5 hours. MWRA has 48 sites planned for Watertown. The locations are shown in the table and overview plan attached. Notification letters will be sent to abutters.
Work will begin on Monday December 7, 2020 and will occur between 7AM and 4PM. Construction Zone Safety Plans include use of police details and traffic control devices related to worker and public safety at each boring location.
