The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) will be retrofitting a blow-off valve located within the water distribution systems’ Section 31 pipeline, and adjacent to the intersection of Longwood Avenue and the Riverway in the City of Boston. The work is expected to start on Thursday, March 13, 2025, with an initial pipeline isolation test and potentially the retrofitting of the blow-off valve. Once the retrofit work commences, it is expected to take approximately one to two days to complete.
During work hours, which will be from 7:00AM to 3:00PM, crews will be on site within the Authority’s easement abutting the Muddy River, and typical construction noise can be expected. Additionally, while there will not be any roadway impacts, pedestrian’s utilizing the pathways should use caution when visiting the immediate area, and follow all signage located at the work site.
Important to note, water service to the surrounding area will continue to be provided while the repair work is underway. Should discolored water occur, please run faucets until water returns to normal clarity (it can take up to approximately 10 minutes) before drinking or utilizing for dishes, laundry, or other needs. Furthermore, should any water pressure issues occur, they will be resolved automatically following the repair work.
