About This Project
The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) has commenced a new construction project at the Hayes Pump Station located at 100 Redfield Road in the Town of Wakefield. The majority of the Hayes Pump Station equipment and facility components are over 30 years old and are at the end of their service life.
The MWRA awarded the $25 million contract to Waterline Industries Corporation of Seabrook, New Hampshire, to perform the work, with a contract term of 1,095 calendar days from the Notice to Proceed. The Notice to Proceed was issued on Monday, December 9, 2024.
Work Includes:
With numerous updates in the Massachusetts State Building Code since the facility was initially constructed, the rehabilitation will include the latest upgrades to address code compliance issues, such as HVAC, plumbing, architectural, roof, and fire protection system improvements.
Also, major facility components in need of rehabilitation will include:
- Facility gates;
- Wastewater screens and grinders;
- Primary wastewater pumps and motors;
- Odor control systems; and,
- Electrical equipment, such as a backup emergency generator in case of power failure.
Replacement of these components will ensure that the facility will continue to provide uninterrupted wastewater service. During the facility rehabilitation, a temporary bypass pumping system will be utilized, allowing the facility to deactivate in order to replace certain equipment and to expedite the construction work.
Additionally, site drainage improvements immediately adjacent to the facility, including a drainage swale and MassDOT stormwater system connection, will also be constructed.
For more information, please contact MWRA Public Affairs.
Schedule:
The majority of construction work is anticipated to be performed Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00AM to approximately 3:00PM. The duration of the project is expected to take about three years to complete.
