We are proud to announce that the public is welcome to the MWRA Deer Island Wastewater Treatment Plant on July 11. 2026 to view the Tall Ships from the Marine Pier landing starting at 07:00 am. Large crowds are expected, and visitors are encouraged to plan, take public transportation, arrive early, and follow all posted signs and directions from public safety personnel.
It should be noted that the walking distance from Taft’s Avenue and the Otis Street bus drop-off to the viewing area is approximately 1.3 miles. There will be a shuttle available to ensure access for individuals with mobility and functional needs.

Parking Restrictions
Parking will be limited in the town of Winthrop near Shirley Neck and there will be no parking on Deer Island. Temporary parking restrictions, road closures, and tow zones may be in effect before, during, and after the event.
Visitors should not park in restricted areas, emergency access lanes, private lots, driveways or areas marked for residents, or event operations. Vehicles parked illegally may be ticketed or towed. Point Shirley Residents: Due to road closures near Tafts Avenue, residential parking stickers will be provided to residents who reside on the following streets: Tafts Ave., Otis St., Elliot St., Pebble Ave., Whittier St., Townsend St., Maryland Ave., Pratt St., Kellys Way, Andrew St., Wyman St., Strandway, and Mugford St. Stickers will be distributed on Friday, July 3rd during the Winthrop 250th celebration from noon to 5:00 PM and on Tuesday, July 7th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Charles Famolare Public Landing. Residents must have a valid ID and vehicle registration . There is no charge for the stickers.
Public Transportation
Visitors are strongly encouraged to use public transportation, rideshare, biking, or walking whenever possible. Bike racks to secure bicycles will be available. Public transit is expected to be the most efficient way to access the viewing areas due to traffic congestion and limited parking. The MBTA will provide regular weekday 712 bus service from Orient Heights to Deer Island dropping off at the corner of Taft’s and Otis Streets
Please allow extra travel time and check transit schedules before leaving.
Fish Pier Closed
The Deer Island Sportfishing Pier will be temporarily closed on July 10th & 11th for the duration of the Sail Boston event.
Prohibited Items
For the safety and comfort of all attendees, all attendees will be screened prior to entering Deer Island Public access areas and all bags and personal items may be subject to inspection.
