10/10/24: Late Wednesday afternoon, a private contractor doing work in Brookline accidently drilled into a major MWRA water main. There is currently no impact to water service or water quality. MWRA has reconfigured the system to continue providing fully treated water to affected communities while making the repair.
On Thursday afternoon, after isolating the main, MWRA began the process of inspecting the damage and designing a permanent repair solution.
It is possible that this work may result in discolored water. While the water is safe to drink, if this occurs, residents and businesses should run their faucets until the water returns to normal clarity (it can take up to approximately 10 minutes) before drinking or using for dishes, laundry, or other needs.
We appreciate your assistance and will provide updates as needed.

There is currently no impact to water service or water quality. MWRA is in the process of reconfiguring the system in order to continue providing fully treated water to affected communities while making the repair.
In order to give MWRA flexibility in implementing a solution, we ask that residents of all communities in the impacted area cut down on any excess water use, such as lawn watering and car washes, and minimize regular use as much as possible.
