Q. How can I help my students prepare for the contest?

A. Direct students to this website. Stress the importance of staying on topic. We see many well written or artistic entries that don’t qualify for recognition because they have strayed too far from the original question.

Q. May I assist my students in any way?

A. Although all work must be done by the student, we do encourage you to review work in progress, especially writing entries for errors in fact or concept.

If you or your students aren’t sure of something, please email Meg Tabacsko at meg.tabacsko@mwra.state.ma.us. The more fundamental the question, the more important it is to be on track.

We do allow teachers to assist kindergarten through grade 2 students with labeling and mounting of posters.

Q.  Should I send only the best entries from my class?

A. No, please send them all. This helps us know how many students took part in the contest and enables us to send a certificate of participation to every entrant.

Q. What needs to be included with the contest entries?

A. Whether you are submitting one entry or more than 100, we ask that you complete a Contest Registration Form.  Please make sure that each individual entry has a Student Label glued or taped securely to the back.

Q. Where do I get a Contest Registration Form and Student Labels?

A Information packets that included a flyer announcing the contest, a registration form, student labels, and a rules and regulations sheet were mailed to schools in late December of 2005. If you did not receive a packet and would like to, please contact Jackie Floyd at 617-788-1131.

Download contest labels via the links below:

>labels for entries (.doc)
>labels for entries (.pdf)

All information included in the packet is linked to this page and can be downloaded.

Q. When is the contest deadline?

A. All poster and/or writing entries must be postmarked by Friday, March 17, 2006.

Q. How do I submit my students’ work?

A. All entries must be mailed to:

MWRA School Contest
Deer Island Treatment Plant
Reception/Training Building
100 Tafts Avenue
Winthrop, MA 02152

Q. May I hand deliver my entries?

A. Sorry, no.  All entries must be mailed to Deer Island. All entries must be postmarked by March 17, 2006.

Q.  What if I still have questions?

A. If you still have questions, please contact Meg Tabacsko.  Email is the preferred mode of communication.  Meg can be reached at <meg.tabacsko@mwra.state.ma.us>. If you do not have access to email, please call Meg at 617-788-1139.
