About this Project:

MWRA CCR Cover

The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) is commencing an important combined sewer overflow (CSO) project (Contract 7915 CHE008 Pipe Replacement Project) on Eastern Avenue and Willoughby Street in the City of Chelsea starting approximately Monday, May 8, 2023, and ending approximately Saturday, July 1, 2023.

The project will replace thirty feet of piping between the Chelsea’s CHE008 regulator structure (RE-081) and the MWRA’s Chelsea Branch Sewer and Relief Sewer, and will install new structures to maintain the sewerage flow at the intersection of Willoughby Street and Eastern Avenue.

In order to perform the construction work, two lanes along Eastern Avenue will need to be temporarily closed with jersey barriers. At all times, one lane in each direction will remain open, as well as access to Willoughby Street. Additionally, police details will be onsite to assist vehicular traffic during normal working hours.
