MWRA Pipe Maintenance in Brookline May Cause Discolored Water in Areas of Allston and Brighton

On February 16, 2023 the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will be conducting maintenance on a water main in Brookline.  Work will take place along Beacon Street and Harvard Avenue.

affected area

The work is estimated to take approximately one week to complete and may result in a slight change in water pressure or discolored water in parts of Allston and Brighton, as shown on the map (PDF).

If discolored water does occur, it will be from a small amount of iron in local pipes following the redirected water supply to this area following the initial redirection of water supply to this area.

Please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used. Residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work. Residents may want to wait for the water to clear before using it.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact MWRA Intergovernmental Affairs Director, Sean Navin at (617) 788-1112 or Sean.Navin@mwra.com.
