Governor Baker Swears in Two Members of MWRA Board of Directors

On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, Governor Baker swore in Reverend Mariama White-Hammond and Joseph C. Foti to the MWRA Board of Directors.

Reverend Mariama White-Hammond was appointed by Mayor Michelle Wu as one of the City’s three representatives on MWRA's eleven-member Board of Directors. She fills a board seat vacated by Chris Cook. Rev. White-Hammond is the Chief of Environment, Energy, and Open Space for the City of Boston. In this role, she is responsible for leading the Cabinet in achieving its mission of enhancing environmental justice and quality of life in Boston by protecting air, water, climate, and land resources, as well as preserving and improving the integrity of Boston's architectural and historic resources. She has an extensive background in embedding equity and environmental justice into Boston’s communities. Rev. White-Hammond is the founding pastor of New Roots AME Church in Dorchester, a multi-racial, multi-class community. She is a fellow with the Green Justice Coalition, and a public speaker throughout the nation. Rev. White-Hammond was a leader for both the 2017 Boston Women’s March and Boston People’s Climate Mobilization.

Joseph C. Foti, one of three Board members representing the MWRA Advisory Board, is currently serving his seventh term on the MWRA Board of Directors. He is the Deputy Administrator and Chief of Operations at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation Highway Division. Previously, he was the Director of Public Works for the City of Chelsea. He has been an active member of the MWRA Advisory Board since 1990, serving as Chairman from 1997 to 2001. Mr. Foti received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Suffolk University while working in the Massachusetts House of Representatives as a Legislative Aide.
