MWRA Maintenance Work May Cause Discolored Water in Parts of Brookline

affected area

Please be advised that on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, MWRA is scheduled to reactivate a metered supply connection to the town at Newton Street, which was previously taken offline for maintenance last fall.  Brookline residents within the noted highlighted area may experience some discolored water for 1 to 2 days following the reactivation;  if discolored water does occur, it will result from a small amount of iron in local pipes stirred as flows are redirected within Brookline from this supply point. See map (PDF) for clear location.

Please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used.  Residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work.  Residents may want to wait for the water to clear before using it.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact MWRA’s 24-hour Operations Center at (617) 305-5950.
