Notice to Watertown Abutters

The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) is planning to upgrade water transmission pipes in your area. As part of the design effort, MWRA has hired CDM Smith Inc. and Albanese Brothers, Inc. to perform condition assessment activities on existing pipelines. The condition assessment activities will include a test pit excavation.

At the proposed location on Irving Street, work is expected to take approximately 6-8 hours to complete. Work will be completed during the week of December 6, 2021 between the hours of 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Construction Zone Safety Plans include use of police details and traffic control devices to worker and public safety at the location.

The condition assessment activities involve blocking off a small area of the road and/or sidewalk (not within private property) with an excavator and support truck(s). The test pit will include digging down to a depth of 6 to 10 feet to inspect the pipeline. Upon completion, the location will be restored to its original condition.

Water service to homes in the area will not be affected.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact MWRA Community Relations Manager, Jeffrey McLaughlin at (617) 839-9108 or jeffrey.mclaughlin@mwra.com, or or call MWRA’s 24-hour water phone line at 617-305-5950.
