MWRA Maintenance Work May Cause Discolored Water & Lower Pressure in Parts of Melrose

affected area

On Tuesday, April 20, 2021 the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will begin excavating for water line maintenance along Lynn Fells Parkway near Albert Street, Melrose. Commuters may expect some traffic slowdown when traveling along Lynn Fells Parkway in this area during 9:00 am-3:00 pm working hours. See map (PDF) for a clear location.

On Monday, April 26, 2021 the MWRA will isolate this water main in support of the maintenance work. No service interruptions are expected during this time, but some Melrose residents near Burrell Street may experience discolored water or slightly reduced pressure when the water main is isolated.  If discolored water does occur, it will result from a small amount of iron in local pipes. Please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used. Residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work.  Residents may want to wait for the water to clear before using it.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact MWRA Community Relations Manager, Jeffrey McLaughlin at (617) 305-5762 or jeffrey.mclaughlin@mwra.com.
