MWRA Work May Cause Discolored Water, Reduced Water Pressure in Parts of Newton

9/17/20 Update: This work is now going to be done on Friday September 18, 2020.

Original:

Beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2020 through approximately 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2020, MWRA will be performing maintenance at the Commonwealth Avenue Pump Station.

Newton residents south of the Massachusetts Turnpike may notice discolored water and slightly lower water pressure during that time. If discolored water does occur, it is the result of a small amount of iron in local pipes. Please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used. Residents should check water clarity before washing white or lighter colored laundry during this period.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact MWRA Community Relations Manager, Jeffrey McLaughlin at (617) 305-5762 or jeffrey.mclaughlin@mwra.com, or or call MWRA’s 24-hour water phone line at 617-305-5950.
