MWRA Water Pipeline Work May Cause Discolored Water in Stoneham and Wakefield

Location of leak repair Revere

Update November 14, 2017

The pipeline isolation work has been postponed. We will post updates when the project is rescheudled.

MWRA operations will isolate a water pipeline that supplies areas of Stoneham and Wakefield on Monday, November 13. The work is necessary to allow the MWRA  to connect a newly installed water main to an existing main on Cottage Street in Stoneham.

Water Service Impacts: Normal water service is expected.

The work may cause discolored water in parts of Stoneham and the entire town of Wakefield.

The discolored water may last 1-2 days after the isolation. If discolored water does occur, it will result from a small amount of iron in local pipes. Please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used. Residents may want to wait for the water to clear before using it.

Contact: If you have any questions, please contact Jeff McLaughlin, (617) 305-5762 or MWRA’s 24-hour water line at (617) 305-5860.
