The MWRA will be starting a water pipeline replacement project on Monday, May 5, 2008.  The work will involve removing and replacing a 16 inch water line in the traffic lane along the odd numbered side of Washington Street, from Broad Street to the Lynnway.  The project will start at the intersection of Washington Street and Lynnway, and progress towards Broad Street.

The work will involve cutting into the existing asphalt, excavation, removal of the existing MWRA water main, and installation of a new water main.  Access to driveways and walkways will be affected during the day, but will be accessible by the end of each work day.  Daily work hours will be from 7:30AM to 4:00PM.  Parking on the odd side of the street will be restricted during work hours within designated work zones.  Notices will be posted to allow for alternative parking.  Asphalt will be placed on the road at the end of each week over the areas of pipeline replacement.  Street sweeping will occur weekly.  Restoration and permanent paving will be done at the completion of the pipeline replacement work.

The existing water, sewer, and gas services from some buildings may be affected by the work.  Notification will be given to each household before any service disruption.  The water, sewer and gas services will also be exposed during the work, and will be inspected by the LWSC and Keyspan Gas Co.

The work is expected to take between 5 and 7 weeks to completion.  Work will not be occurring in front of each building for the entire time.  It is likely that work activities will occur for a week or so in each 50 to 75 feet of pipeline installation.

Please be advised the MWRA will be working closely with the Lynn Police Department and police details will be present during construction hours.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call Jeffrey McLaughlin, MWRA Community Coordinator, at 617-660-7976.  If any issues occur during non-working hours, please contact the MWRA Operations Control Center at 617-305-5950.
