On March 18, 2008, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority is scheduled to resume work on its Southern Southern Spine Distribution Mains Project on Granite Avenue in Milton, weather permitting.

For safety reasons, the installation of 48-inch water lines along the stretch of Granite Avenue from East Milton Square southward to the Quincy city limit will require the closure of the ramp for Exit 9 off of Interstate 93 northbound between the morning and evening rush hours for about the next month. Smartraveler notifications will be posted in advance of the ramp closure.

This work will also result in the restriction of vehicle traffic on portions of Willard Street in Quincy and Granite Avenue in Milton. Traffic will be open only to abutters and to the patrons of the businesses and medical facilities along this stretch of the roadway.

The Southern Spine Distribution Mains Project involves the rehabilitation and/or replacement of three water transmission mains serving the communities of Boston, Milton and Quincy. This project is needed to modernize the water distribution system, provide adequate capacity for these communities, and service the new Blue Hills Covered Storage Facility.
The MWRA apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this work may cause and asks for your patience as we work to improve the reliability of your water supply system.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Len Cawley at (617) 660-7972.
