Best Management Practices
MWRA is required to develop a Best Management Practices
(BMP) plan to mitigate pollution at Deer Island Treatment Plant
as well as at 11 other MWRA facilities (Combined Sewer Overflow
Treatment Facilities, Headworks Facilities and the Sludge-to-Fertilizer
Plant). The BMP plans, and any proposed changes or changes in facility
operation that increase the potential for ancillary activities (materials
storage areas, site runoff, accidental spillage, etc.) to result
in receiving water impacts, are available to the public.
The BMP plans are maintained at each of the following
facilities:
MWRA will also notify the EPA and MADEP within 60
days of any change in facility operation that materially increases
the potential for ancillary activities to result in a release of
hazardous or toxic pollutants.
