Over the past year, the MWRA Board of Directors has been considering whether to reach out to communities on the periphery of its existing service area to encourage them to consider MWRA as a water supply option. At the request of the Board, MWRA staff have identified communities which are in river basins, or portions of river basins that are stressed and facing potential water deficits, and have briefed Board members on topics including water system "safe yield," receiving basin and donor basin considerations, and economic, legislative, and admissions process considerations.
