RETIREMENT SYSTEM

The Enabling Act, Massachusetts General Law (MGL) chapter 372 of 1984, established the Authority and also established a defined benefit plan for its employees who were hired on or after July 1, 1985. The MWRA Retirement System is a separate and autonomous entity from the Authority and is governed by a five-member board which serves the members of the system. The governance of the MWRA Employees Retirement Board is provided for by MGL c. 32 and the CMR 840 of the Public Employees Retirement Administration Commission (PERAC).
