MWRA Public Meeting - Newton
Thursday May 23, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.
Newton City Hall, Room 204
The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) recently awarded a contract for the rehabilitation of the Commonwealth Avenue Water Pumping Station to WES Construction Corporation. The work involves the installation of new pipe to existing MWRA water mains. The entire project will take 18 months to complete. Approximately 50% of the work will occur inside the pumping station.
The new pipe will go from the station across Commonwealth Avenue and connect to water mains located beneath the Carriage Road. This work is part of our overall water redundancy program and will likely take place in September 2019.
MWRA also has two upcoming projects in Newton. The first involves a boring program to perform subsurface investigation for an upcoming water pipeline project. These small borings will take place along Centre Street from Commonwealth Avenue to Ward Street, and along Ward Street from Centre Street to Waverly. Addresses include 1004-1073 Centre Street, and 250-460 Ward Street. We will work with the City to minimize any traffic impacts.
The other project involves the lining of an existing sewer line on Farwell Street just past the intersection of North Street, continuing down Farwell to the end of Albemarle Road, and a section located on California Street from Bridge Street to Chapel Street.
MWRA will be holding a public meeting at Thursday May 23, 2019 at 6 p.m. at Newton City Hall - Room 204 to discuss these projects.
