MWRA Water Pipeline Work May Cause Discolored Water in Stoneham and Wakefield

Location of leak repair Revere

MWRA will be working on a water pipeline that supplies areas of Stoneham and Wakefield on Tuesday, December 5th. The work is necessary to allow the MWRA to connect a newly installed water main to an existing main on Cottage Street in Stoneham.

No disruptions to water service are expected. However, the work may cause discolored water in parts of Stoneham and the entire Town of Wakefield.

The discolored water may last 1-2 days after the isolation. If discolored water does occur, it will result from a small amount of iron in local pipes. Please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used.

Residents may want to wait for the water to clear before using it.

Similar work will be performed again on Monday, December 11th.

If you have any questions, please contact Jeff McLaughlin, (617) 305-5762 or MWRA’s 24-hour water line at (617) 305-5860.
