Today, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection presented MWRA with a 2015 Massachusetts Public Water System Award for outstanding performance in maintaining safe, abundant and clean drinking water. MWRA also received a special citation from Governor Charlie Baker and Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito.

"The Commonwealth is fortunate to have 1,735 public water systems that work every day to provide a safe and consistent water supply source that we should never take for granted," said MassDEP Commissioner Martin Suuberg. "Given the many worthy drinking water systems in the Commonwealth, we try to find each year those whose consistency and foresight in planning for the future are deserving of special recognition and commendation.

This year, 41 water systems across Massachusetts received the award, which is presented annually in celebration of National Drinking Water Week. The 2015 awards ceremony was held at the newly-rededicated West Gloucester Water Treatment Plant.

Special Citation from Governor Baker and Lt. Governor Polito
