1,4-Dioxane Not Found in MWRA Water

You may have heard a story on National Public Radio about 1,4-Dioxane in drinking water supplies. MWRA has never found 1,4-Dioxane in the water supply.

MWRA has tested for 1,4-Dioxane at several locations across the service area as part of the EPA Unregulated Contaminants Monitoring Rule.

Though there is not yet a national standard, Massachusetts already regulates 1,4-Dioxane in drinking water. MWRA's took 40 samples in 2013 and 16 so far this year, and all were non detect. MWRA samples were tested with highly sensitive equipment.

MWRA tests the water supply each year for over 120 contaminants to ensure the water supplied is of the highest quality. For more information, please read MWRA's water quality test results or call our Water Quality Hotline: (617) 242-5323.
