MWRA To Perform Work On Chicopee Valley Aqueduct
May Cause Discolored Water in Chicopee, South Hadley Fire District 1 and Wilbraham

On Thursday night, April 4, 2013, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will be investigating a leak along the Chicopee Valley Aqueduct in Belchertown. The Aqueduct serves Chicopee, South Hadley Fire District 1 and Wilbraham. In order to access the location, the pipeline will be shut down during the overnight hours.

There will be no interruption in water supply, as there is sufficient storage in the Nash Hill storage tanks during the night. Customers should not see any reduction in water pressure or discolored water related to this work.

If discolored water does occur, it will result from a small amount of iron in the pipes. While it is safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used. Residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work. Please call MWRA at 617-305-5950 if you have any questions.
