MWRA BEGINS REHAB OF PIPELINE IN ARLINGTON |
||||||
The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority recently began the rehabilitation of its Section 28 pipeline in Arlington. This project includes the cleaning and cement-mortar-lining of approximately 6,250 feet of 20-inch- diameter, cast-iron pipe. This portion of Section 28, which was constructed in 1899, provides suction to the Brattle Court Pump Station in Arlington. This $1.9 million contract was awarded to J. D’Amico, Inc of Randolph, MA in July 2009. Work is just beginning and is expected to be completed by next fall. The Brattle Court Pump Station serves the Northern Extra High System, which includes Bedford, Lexington, and parts of Arlington, Belmont, Waltham, and Winchester. Section 28 is the oldest of the suction mains that serve the pump stations. This rehabilitation, along with the future replacement of the Brattle Court Pump Station discharge main, will improve the suction and discharge capacity of the Brattle Court Pump Station. MWRA is coordinating with the Town of Arlington as they plan to repair or replace a large culvert in Brattle Street, which crosses MWRA’s Section 28. ### |
