The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will hold a public meeting on its Southern Spine Distribution Mains Project on Thursday, September 6, 2007 to describe project and introduce the contractor - P. Caliacco Corporation.

The meeting will be held at: 7:00 p.m., Heritage Hall, 114 Granite Avenue, Milton.

The Southern Spine Distribution Mains Project involves the rehabilitation and/or replacement of three water transmission mains serving the communities of Boston, Milton and Quincy. This project is needed to modernize the water distribution system, provide adequate capacity for these communities, and service the new Blue Hills Covered Storage Facility.

The new Section 107 installation will begin in East Milton Square, connecting with existing MWRA water mains Sections 21 and 43, and will continue approximately 4,500-linear feet along Willard Street, Granite Street and Quarry Street in Milton and Quincy. Section 107 will connect to Section 22 at the intersection of Furnace Brook Parkway and Quarry Street.

The $5.4 million contract was awarded P. Caliacco Corporation in June 2007 and the work is expected to be completed in fall 2008.

Residents are encouraged to attend this meeting to learn more about this project.

For questions about the meeting or about the project, please contact Gary Webster, MWRA at (617) 660-7977 or by email at Gary.Webster@mwra.state.ma.us.
