MWRA BLASTING ON PROVIDENCE HIGHWAY ENDS

On Tuesday, April 11, 2006, MWRA’s contractor finished the blasting portion of work along the Providence Highway in West Roxbury. The contractor, P. Gioioso & Sons, completed the work two weeks ahead of schedule.

Night construction activity will begin on April 18 near the V.A. Hospital and the West Roxbury High School. Construction will take place along the VFW Parkway and will proceed in a northerly direction. There will be no blasting associated with this work.

The Upper Neponset Valley Replacement Sewer Project will address inadequate capacity in the existing, 100-year old sewer system that causes back-ups into homes and overflows into the Charles River and nearby wetlands and brooks. Under this project, the MWRA is installing 16,500 linear feet of new sewer along the Providence Highway (between Clair Motors and Route 109), the VFW Parkway (between Route 109 and Corey Street), and Baker Street in Boston. Construction began in March 2005 and will be completed in Winter 2008.
