Quincy Parks to Sponsor "Environmental Treasures" Tour of MWRA's Nut Island Facility on August 7

On Thursday, August 7, the Quincy Park Department’s Environmental Treasures program will host a free tour of Nut Island at 6:00 p.m.

Michelle Gillen of the MWRA will provide the tour of MWRA's Nut Island Headworks facility.

The evening will also include a performance by songwriter Mike Cotter, who will sing the "Nut Island Blues." Landscape architect Mary Smith will give a talk about how she designed the contours of the land, and Citizen Advisory Committee Chair Jack Walsh will lead participants on a walk around the island.

Participants who would like to enjoy some of the most spectacular views in Quincy are encouraged to bring a sandwich, drink and jacket for an optional picnic after the tour.

The tour requires walking on very hilly terrain. The rain date is August 11 at 6:00 p.m.

For additional information, please call the Quincy Park Department: (617) 376-1254.

Directions to Nut Island: The island is at the tip of Houghs Neck, Quincy. Take Sea Street to the end, turn left up Sea Avenue to the entrance to the park at the top of the hill. Parking is available on the pier and inside the fence next to the building. The tour will begin at the building entrance (near the flagpoles).
